My volunteer experience

I discovered the opportunity of doing volunteering at MySmallHelp Peru in an unexpected way. I attended a virtual event about different volunteering opportunities in the country, and the first one I heard about was this one. Jessica, the director of the organization, inspired me from the start to want to help, to do my part in this great project where children and young people with disabilities and low economic resources in Cusco benefit through different programs granted by the organization.

Like many others, I knew that, unfortunately, thousands of children and young people in the rural areas of Peru did not have the same access education and quality health care. Nevertheless, to be part of something so special to help those who need it and who find themselves in that situation, makes you more involved and care more about this reality. In my case, to know specific stories about children and young people, and how they are growing up in spite of their difficulties, and with the support of MySmallHelp Peru, is something that will always inspire me to want to provide “my small help”, as the name of the organization mentions it, so that all of them can fend for themselves and can have thousands of opportunities to succeed in life.

To belong to the team of MySmallHelp Peru was an incredible experience to me. I had the opportunity to learn many things and meet many beautiful people. Now I understand how a non-profit organization works, and I also learned about how to internally manage the fundraising area, the tasks, the activities and the teamwork that entails.

Unfortunately, because of the pandemic I did not have the opportunity to go to Cusco and visit Ollantaytambo to meet to children, but without a doubt I will do it one day.

I can only thank Jessica and Mayra for giving me the opportunity to be part of their team, to learn from them and about the beautiful work they do by helping and raising awareness for thousands of people in different ways, with the goal of achieving a better world.
